Synopsis:
“Breaking Me Down” is a track and short film from Eli Lu’s Sound Mind project, exploring the emotional turmoil a young boy experiences as he witnesses his parents’ constant fighting. In the film, the child’s imagination transforms the conflict into a boxing match, where his parents battle it out—but it’s the boy who ends up losing. The film delves into how witnessing such intense emotional struggles between parents can deeply affect a child’s emotional state and growth, leaving them feeling powerless, confused, and isolated. Through the lens of imagination, “Breaking Me Down” highlights the lasting impact of familial conflict on a child’s development, as they navigate feelings of fear, anxiety, and an overwhelming sense of being caught in the middle. The piece explores the quiet trauma that can shape a child’s worldview and emotional resilience as they grow.
