Synopsis:
The Epidemic is a poignant exploration of the 1980s crack cocaine crisis and its lasting impact on black communities. Set during an elegant dinner in the late 1980s, the film follows a group of black business owners, leaders, and community members who gather to celebrate their achievements and the legacy of black empowerment. Among the guests is Christopher, the son of a black banker, who is filled with awe and inspiration by the greatness around him. However, the celebration takes a dark turn when an uninvited guest, a figure linked to the crack epidemic, discreetly provides drugs to Christopher’s father. This act disrupts the joyous atmosphere, leading to a shift from vibrancy to darkness as the community’s sense of pride unravels. The film reflects on the destructive impact of the crack era on black families, businesses, and cultural traditions, ultimately posing the question, “How did we get here?”
