Synopsis:
“Too Soon” is one of 12 pieces in the Sound Mind project, a cinematic spoken word mixtape created by twin sisters Eli and Lu. The short film follows the journey of Toby Henderson, an adopted teen who was once born with a heart, but whose world has hardened him into a cold, emotionless being. As he searches for the heart he’s lost, Toby’s body slowly transforms into tin and steel. Consumed by anger and seeking revenge, he plans to become a lone wolf. The film addresses the issue of gun violence in America, while the accompanying spoken word piece is told from the perspective of the victim’s family. The purpose of the project is to encourage those struggling with depression or the desire to cause harm to others to seek help. Hate, the film reminds us, is a learned behavior—and it’s never too late to change. Everyone has a heart; they just need to find it.
